Iran Army Ground Force Plans 5 War Games: Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of Iran's Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said his forces are scheduled to stage 5 military drills during the current Iranian year, which began on March 21.

The planned drills will be held in five different parts of the country, Pourdastan said in an interview with Al-Alam Arabic language news network.

He explained that military exercises are held regularly proportional to the threats posed to Iran, including threats from asymmetric warfare and proxy wars.

Elsewhere, Brigadier General Pourdastan pointed to the Russian S-300 air defense missile system, which Moscow has recently decided to deliver to Iran, and said it will strengthen Iran's air defense capabilities in high altitudes.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree to lift a ban on the delivery of the air defense system to Iran.

Russia signed the $800 million contract to sell Iran the S-300 missile system in 2007, but suspended the delivery three years later because of strong objections from the US and the Zionist regime.

The ban had been introduced by former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev in 2010.
