DAMASCUS (Tasnim) – A number of political and religious figures as well as Yemeni students residing in Syria staged a rally in Damascus to express solidarity with the nation of Yemen.

According to Tasnim dispatches, the gathering was held at the holy shrine of Hazrat Zeynab in the Syrian capital.

The participants carried Yemeni flags and chanted slogans like ‘Death to America’ and ‘Death to Israel’.

The ambassadors of Yemen and the Islamic Republic of Iran to Syria attended the rally and condemned the Saudi-led aggression on Yemen.

The Yemeni envoy referred to the Saudis’ so-called ‘Decisive Storm’ as a ‘destructive storm’ whose objective was to destroy his country and its infrastructures.

He underlined that Yemen came out winner in the confrontation because it did not succumb to the Saudi’s demands.

Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies launched a military campaign against Yemen on March 26. The coalition's justification for the air strikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement was to restore power to fugitive Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

Later on April 21, the Saudis declared a halt to the month-long air campaign. But hours later, they restarted their deadly airstrikes that medical and relief organizations said were killing hundreds of civilians.

Over 1,500 people have been killed since the bombing campaign began, while more than 150,000 have been displaced.
