Saudi Embassy Sues Kuwaiti MP for Slamming Yemen War

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - The embassy of Saudi Arabia in Kuwait reportedly took legal action against a Kuwaiti lawmaker that criticized the kingdom’s military aggression against neighboring Yemen.

The controversial measure was taken after Kuwaiti MP Abdulhameed Dashti censured the devastating Saudi military campaign across Yemen during an interview with the Lebanon-based al-Manar television network, which is affiliated with the Hezbollah resistance movement, local Kuwaiti media outlets reported on Monday.

The lawsuit by the Saudi embassy claims that Dashti’s criticism of its air strikes in Yemen insulted the kingdom, said the press reports, citing Saudi embassy authorities.

According to the reports, the legal measure by the Persian Gulf monarchy is the second against the Shia Kuwaiti lawmaker. In the previous case, Dashti was accused of insulting the kingdom and the Saudi monarchy.

The development came as Saudi forces pressed ahead with their deadly air raids against Yemen’s industrial, civilian and military centers.

Saudi Arabia launched its air campaign against Yemen on March 26 - without a United Nations mandate - in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and to restore power to the country’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a staunch ally of Riyadh. The aggression started after Yemeni popular committees, backed by Ansarullh Movement, gained advances against al-Qaeda.

More than 4,000 people have been killed and injured in the invasion so far, Press TV reported.
