Yemeni Resistance Inspired by Islamic Revolution: IRGC Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari described the resistance shown by the Yemeni people to foreign invasion as a new achievement of the Islamic Revolution and its inspiring role.

“The Yemeni people’s fortitude and resistance to the hegemonic system have been inspired by the Islamic Revolution (and) that is the Islamic Revolution’s new achievement,” Major General Jafari said in a meeting in Tehran on Monday.

The commander also highlighted the failure of “regional and trans-regional enemies” to end or derail such inspiring role of the Islamic revolution.

The comment came amid deadly air strikes by a Saudi-led coalition against Yemen that have been in progress for nearly six weeks.

The Saudi-led offensive, which started March 26, aims to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh. The war has killed more than 2,000 Yemeni people, most of them civilians.

Elsewhere in his comments, the IRGC commander praised Iran’s immunity to the security threats as a major achievement.

“Today, the friends and foes have come to the conclusion that military-security threats against the Islamic Revolution do not work,” he explained.

Back in April, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani had also pointed to Iran’s contribution to peace and stability in the region, urging certain other regional countries to learn from the peaceful nature of Iran's Army and end aggression on the other nations.

He had also stressed that the Islamic Republic's military doctrine is based on defense and deterrence, stressing that such deterrent power contributes to the establishment of peace and security in Iran and the region.
