Naft into AFC Champions League Round of 16

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran's Naft was defeated against Al Ain of the UAE 3-0 in the last Group B fixture of the AFC Champions League at the Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium on Wednesday.

Omar Abdul Rahman opened the scoring for the host in the 63rd minute. Asamoah Gyan made it 2-0 in the 74th minute and Jires Kembo-Ekoko was on target in the 86th minute.

Al Ain topped the group with 12 points and will play its local arch rival Al Ahli — who rallied twice from behind to beat Tractor Sazi 3-2 in its final Group D match on Tuesday and qualified for the Round of 16.

Naft also made it to the next round despite the defeat.

The Iranian club will face Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia in the next stage.

Elsewhere, already-eliminated Al Shabab of Saudi Arabia defeated Pakhtakor of Uzbekistan 2-0 in Tashkent.
