Iran's FM to Visit Oman, Kuwait

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will depart Tehran for the Omani capital of Muscat on Tuesday for talks on regional developments.

During his visit to Oman, the Iranian top diplomat is expected to hold meetings with senior Omani officials on a range of issues, including ways to put an end to the Saudi aggression on Yemen and facilitate sending humanitarian aid to the oppressed and defenseless Yemeni people.

Saudi Arabia started its military aggression against Yemen on March 26- without a UN mandate- in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement, which currently controls the capital, Sana’a, and other major provinces, and to restore power to Yemen's fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh.

According to the UN, since March, nearly 2,000 people have been killed and 7,330 injured due to the conflict in Yemen.

Zarif will then leave Oman for Kuwait to attend the 42nd Meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Affairs Ministers, which is slated for May 27-28 in Kuwait City.

Organized under the theme "Common Vision to Strengthen Tolerance and Ban Terrorism," the meeting will examine major developments in the region, especially the situation in Palestine, Yemen and Syria.
