Envoy Blasts IAEA’s Repetitive Claims against Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Iranian ambassador to the UN nuclear watchdog underlined that repeating previous anti-Iran allegations about the so-called possible military dimensions (PMDs) of Tehran nuclear energy program indicates the ineffectiveness of the UN agency.

Speaking on Friday, Reza Najafi denounced the accusations raised against Iran in the latest report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) about PMDs as “baseless”.

“From Iran’s viewpoint, the repetition of the claims will not enhance the credibility of them but signifies the ineffectiveness of this part of the agency’s report...”

The report shows that the agency has nothing new to introduce regarding the implementation of the Safeguards Agreements in Iran, Najafi said, pointing to the IAEA's new report on Iran.

The new report has the same content as that of the previous reports, of course with different figures, he added.

The United States, Israel and some of their allies repeatedly accuse Iran of pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with the US and the European Union having used the unsubstantiated claim as an excuse to impose illegal sanctions against Tehran.

Iran has categorically rejected the allegation, stressing that as a committed member of the IAEA and a signatory to the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT), it is entitled to develop nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities but has never found any evidence showing that Iran’s civilian nuclear program has been diverted to non-civilian purposes.
