UN Envoy in War-Torn Yemen for Peace Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – UN Special Envoy Ismail Ould al-Sheikh Ahmed is in Sana'a, the capital of Yemen, for talks with political parties in the war-ravaged country.

"All Yemeni parties must return to dialogue," he said, quoted by Sabanews upon his arrival at Sana’a airport on Friday.

A United Nations conference due to take place in Geneva on Thursday was postponed, in a fresh blow to UN efforts to broker peace in a country where nearly 2,000 people have been killed by the Saudi-led coalition since March.

In the latest development, the fourth-largest city in Yemen, al-Hodaida, was bombed and devastated by Saudi Arabian aircraft.

Also a massive explosion rocked a missile silo in the northwestern district of Sana'a near the city’s International Airport, a security source told Sputnik on Saturday.

The blast has hit the Dailami Air Base, which shares structures with the airport.

Al-Ahd news website also reported that the Saudi border guard has targeted Sa’dah province in northern Yemen by firing over 100 rockets.

According to the most recent estimates by the World Health Organization, almost 2,000 people have been killed and more than 8,000 injured in Yemen since the conflict escalated in March.
