Iran, Jordan Urge Closer Political, Economic Relations

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Jordan's new ambassador to Iran, Abdullah Abu Raman, called for further efforts to promote Tehran-Amman relations in diverse political and economic areas.

In the meeting in Tehran on Tuesday, Larijani voiced Iran's readiness to boost cooperation with Jordan in various spheres.

"Given the religious and historical ties between the two nations, there are good grounds for the promotion of bilateral relations in the economic, political and cultural fields," he noted.

He further underlined the importance of establishing a joint economic commission and said such a commission would play a major role in identifying the capacities of the two countries for enhancing bilateral relations.

The Jordanian envoy, for his part, stressed his country's keenness to deepen "friendly ties" with the Islamic Republic, adding that talks between the two countries' high-ranking officials and diplomats would accelerate the promotion of the bilateral ties.

At the meeting, the two officials also exchanged views about the latest developments in the Middle East, including the situation in Syria, and the threats posed to the region by terrorist groups.
