Terrorists' Storm of South Operation in Syria Foiled: Strategist

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Syrian military strategist hailed recent gains by the Syrian army forces in their fight against foreign-backed militants, saying that Damascus has completely thwarted the terrorists' plots in the war-hit country.

Speaking to the Tasnim News Agency, Brigadier General Ali Maqsood pointed to the latest attacks by terrorist groups in southern Syria, saying that in fact, the groups' operation code-named "Storm of South" is part of a scenario aiming to launch an aggression on Syria like the so-called Decisive Storm military operation carried out by Riyadh and its Arab allies against Yemen.

He further emphasized that the Syrian army and resistance fighters, in response, have managed to implement their strategic plan and successfully repel the attacks.

According to local media reports, over 150 terrorists were killed and 200 others wounded in the first day of the so-called the 'Storm of South' operation in Daraa, southwestern Syria.

This is while many other terrorists have been killed and injured with intensified Syrian airstrikes on the ISIL hideouts in the eastern countryside of Hama and in the eastern countryside of Homs.

Earlier this month, the Syrian army backed by fighters from Hezbollah fighters also made significant gains and tightened the noose around the al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group al-Nusra Front near the Syrian town of Flitah in Qalamoun.

The joint forces managed to retake control of a number of hilltops overlooking the border, inflicting heavy losses on the terrorists in the region.

Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists currently controlling parts of it, mostly in the east.

The US and its regional allies have been supporting the militants operating inside Syria for more than four years.
