Iran's FM, IAEA Chief Meet in Vienna Again

VIENNA (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Saturday met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Yukiya Amano here in the Austrian capital.

Zarif and Amano held talks on Tehran’s nuclear energy program once again following the latter’s one-day visit to Iran.

The IAEA chief paid a visit to Iran on Thursday and met with President Hassan Rouhani and Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani.

"The purpose of the visit was to advance work towards the resolution of all outstanding issues regarding Iran's nuclear programme, including clarification of possible military dimensions," he said in a statement after the trip.

Amano on Saturday said the IAEA can issue a report on the possible military dimensions (PMD) in Iran's nuclear energy program by the end of the year.

"With cooperation from Iran, I think we can issue a report by the end of the year on the assessment of the clarification of the issues related to the possible military dimensions," he told reporters in Vienna.

It came as marathon talks between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) continue in Vienna with the purposes of striking a lasting agreement on Tehran's nuclear energy program.

On Tuesday, the two sides gave themselves an extra week beyond an end-June deadline to nail down details of the long-awaited accord.
