French Company: Time Right for Rail Cooperation with Iran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior official with a French company that recently signed a rail agreement with Iran said that given the strong possibility of a final nuclear deal between Tehran and six world powers, it is now "the right time" to boost cooperation with Iran in the rail sector.

"It seems that Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) will reach an agreement (soon)," the official at the French company, AREP, told the Tasnim News Agency.

"Therefore, I think we have chosen the right time to start cooperation with Iran," he added.

He further emphasized that there is a very good opportunity for investment in Iran.

The Islamic Republic of Iran Railways and AREP on Wednesday signed an agreement to develop the Asian country's main rail stations.

Locating new railroad stations in the Iranian capital of Tehran with the aim of improving rail access, and designing multimodal rail stations in the city in order to provide easy access to different rail stations in the urban and suburban transportation system are among the works to be carried out by the French company.

According to the agreement, the company should also develop rail transport systems in other major Iranian cities, like the holy cities of Mashhad and Qom.

France has the second largest European railroad network, with a total of 29,901 kilometers of railroad.
