Iranian Commander Warns against Optimism towards US after N. Deal

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan stressed on Sunday that US enmity towards Iran would not end with a possible deal between Tehran and world powers over the country's nuclear energy program.

"The United States, as a member of the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UNSC members plus Germany), may reach agreements with us, but we should not be optimistic about this enemy," General Pourdastan said.

Speaking in a ceremony here in Tehran, he went on to say that one should fear its enemy more when the enemy pretends to be looking for peace and friendship.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has on many occasions stressed that he is not optimistic about negotiations with the US.

General Pourdastan referred to Imam Khamenei's remarks, saying that the lack of optimism is due to the "deeply-rooted hostility” of the US towards Iran.

Back in 2013, Ayatollah Khamenei said that the "Americans are not trustworthy, they are illogical, and they are not frank in their interactions."

Supreme Leader further blasted the US hostile policy towards the Islamic republic, and added, "The stands adopted by US officials during the recent few months, too, once again confirmed the necessity of being pessimist about them."
