Iran's Larijani Hails "Good Progress" in Nuclear Talks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underlined that the ongoing negotiations between the Islamic Republic and six world powers over the country's peaceful nuclear program have made good progress.

"I think that the talks underway over the nuclear issue are following a good path because they are within a planned framework," Larijani said on Friday morning, referring to the negotiations between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

He, however, censured negative remarks by some Western officials about a final deal between the two sides, saying the stances adopted by the US and some other countries should not be taken seriously because they always make empty gestures in the last days of negotiations.

US President Barack Obama has recently said that the chance of reaching a deal is less than 50 percent.

Iran and the six powers have been negotiating over the past 22 months to end more than a decade of standoff over Tehran's civilian nuclear program once and for all.

After missing a self-imposed deadline of June 30 and extra days of tight diplomatic meetings afterwards, the parties decided on Tuesday to continue the talks until Friday in the hope of finalizing the accord.
