Istanbul Police Department Issues Warning of Possible Attacks

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Istanbul Police Department on Monday sent a written document to all of its units warning of possible attacks in crowded places in Istanbul, particularly in regards to the Yenikapı-Taksim metro line and metrobus, both crucial public transportation routes.

The document, which was signed by Istanbul Deputy Police Chief Mustafa Çalışkan, referred to several operations being carried out against Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists and Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militants in different cities last Friday.

The operations began after a suicide bomber, who is suspected to be a member of ISIL, carried out an attack in the Suruç district of the province of Sanlıurfa last Monday, killing 32 activists and injuring more than 100 people.

It was stated in the document, as reported by Today Zaman, that there is information that the attacks will continue and may target public transportation vehicles, police buildings, vehicles belonging to security forces and police lodges.

The letter also directed the police units to review security measures and asked them to inform the counterterrorism unit of the latest developments.
