Iran Raps “Illusive” Support for Terrorism
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif leveled criticism at certain countries in the Middle East for adding fuel to the flames of terrorist activities just for their illusions.
“Our region is gripped by violence and extremism, and we feel that some regional countries are also provoking that without any reason and just for the sake of illusion,” the top Iranian diplomat said on Monday, in a meeting with Head of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq Ammar al-Hakim in Baghdad.
Zarif noted that Iran and all other regional countries have a “common enemy” that indiscriminately threatens Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds, Turks, Arabs and others.
He also praised Iraqis for being at the forefront of the fight against terrorism, reaffirming Iran’s commitment to assisting its neighbor with that battle.
For his part, the Iraqi cleric hailed Iran for its determination to preserve calm in the region through dialogue.
The Iranian foreign minister travelled to Iraq as the final leg of his tour of regional countries that took him earlier to Kuwait and Qatar.
His trip came after Iran and the Group 5+1 (also known as the P5+1 or E3+3) finalized the text of a lasting agreement on Tehran's nuclear energy program in Vienna, Austria, on July 14. Later, the 15-memebr United Nations Security Council unanimously passed a resolution endorsing the text of the deal.
