French Farmers Plan New Protests amid Country's Agricultural Crisis

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – French farmers plan to continue rallying, dissatisfied with the low purchasing prices for their goods and with insufficient measures proposed by the government to overcome the country's agricultural crisis.

Protests by French farmers across the country turned violent in the past weeks, with protesters dumping manure in the streets and setting up blockades, Sputnik News cited Franceinfo online radio station as reporting on Tuesday.

Farmers have requested an increase in market prices for their goods and significant financial assistance from the government.

Farmers from the northeastern-France Moselle department plan to block international highways A37 and A4 to stop the import of food to France, Franceinfo reported. According to the radio station, agricultural machinery has begun to arrive at planned roadblock locations.

Protests against falling food prices have been taking place in France since July 19. The agricultural crisis has left one in 10 French farmers on the verge of bankruptcy, the French Agricultural Ministry stated.
