Iranian President Holds Talks with EU’s Mogherini in Tehran

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and the visiting European Union Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini on Tuesday held a meeting in Tehran, during which the two sides conferred on a wide range of issues.

During the meeting held in the Iranian president's office, Rouhani and Mogherini exchanged views on international and regional issues as well as the ways to expand bilateral relations between Tehran and the EU.

Earlier in the day, the EU official had held a meeting with Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and attended a joint press conference.

Speaking at the Tuesday afternoon press conference, Mogherini referred to the recent conclusion of talks over Tehran's nuclear energy program, saying implementation of a final nuclear deal will have far-reaching effects on Iran, its ties with Europe and the international community and also on the Middle East.

She also acknowledged the supports provided by Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, President Hassan Rouhani, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi.

Mogherini’s trip to Iran, which is taking place two weeks after Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, US, Britain, France, and Germany) successfully concluded their nuclear talks in the Austrian capital of Vienna, is the second leg of her visit to the Persian Gulf region.

She earlier made a trip to Riyadh on Monday and held talks with Saudi officials, mainly on the recent nuclear conclusion.

The EU foreign policy chief coordinated the nuclear diplomacy with Iran on behalf of the sextet.
