Iran's Velayati Highlights Muslims' Role in Advance of Science

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Secretary-General of World Assembly of Islamic Awakening Ali Akbar Velayati praised the role Muslim scientists have played in the development of science, and rapped the West over attempts to downplay Muslims' contributions to science.

Westerners have always spread negative propaganda about Muslims' role, claiming that different sciences have originated in Europe and the West, Velayati said, addressing Muslim Doctors Conference in northeastern Iranian holy city of Mashhad.

They claim that Muslims have just translated the materials developed by the Western civilizations of Greece and ancient Rome, which runs counter to historical facts, he added.

"Muslims' role in the development and advancement of sciences, medicine in particular, is definitely outstanding," Velayati emphasized, adding that Muslim scientists are making huge contributions to modern science even today.

The Muslim Doctors Conference was inaugurated on Thursday with over 400 Muslim physicians and academics from all around the world in attendance.

Sponsored by the Institute for Compilation and Publication of Supreme Leader's works, World Assembly of Islamic Awakening, and the Ahl ul-Bayt World Assembly, the conference is held in three cities of Mashhad, Tehran, and Shiraz mainly in cooperation with the cities' universities of medical sciences.
