Russia Develops New Multipurpose Combat Transformer Robot

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Russia has developed a robotic platform capable of transforming into an array of useful units, ranging from a route clearance vehicle to electronic warfare system.

The platform is designed by Systemprom, a subsidiary of Russia's United Instrument Manufacturing Corporation, Sputnik News reported on Saturday.

"We are working on several systems. The first one is a multipurpose robotic complex capable of carrying different types of payload," Alexey Simulin, the head of the scientific and technical department, said.

"The complex will be equipped with various additional systems to power and control the payload. This design allows us to turn this machine into anything," he added.

Functional tasks the robot will perform depend on the type of the payload. The combat module will give the platform strike and reconnaissance capabilities. The robot could also be equipped with electronic warfare and communications systems, as well as a minesweeping unit.

Internal trials of the transformer are expected to begin in late 2015.
