Western Media Boycotting, Distorting Leader’s Letter to Youths: Iranian Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An official with the World Assembly of Islamic Awakening deplored Western media's approach to Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei's letter to European and North American Youths.

The Western media's main approach"is boycotting or systematically distorting the letter," said Hamid Reza Moqaddamfar, in charge of the assembly's cultural department, while addressing the Muslim Doctors Conference in the northeastern Iranian holy city of Mashhad.

In a historic letter on January 21, Imam Khamenei asked Western youths to try to gain a direct and firsthand knowledge of the religion in reaction to the flood of prejudgments and disinformation campaigns.

The Leader's letter was released after the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo on January 14 featured a cartoon of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) weeping on the front cover of its first issue after a January 7 attack on its Paris office by al-Qaeda-linked gunmen killed 12 people.

Moqaddamfar described releasing the letter as a turning point, adding that it has broad dimensions and contains numerous messages such as invitation to the truth, invitation to gaining direct knowledge about Islam, and invalidating the wrong image of Islam presented in the West.

He stressed that despite adverse attempts, including those by the Western media, the letter has already been very effective in the short period since its release.
