Deputy FM Reiterates Iran’s Firm Support for Regional Allies

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian underlined that Tehran is determined to continue supporting its allies in the Middle East region.

In a televised interview broadcast live on Tuesday night, Amir Abdollahian touched upon recent visits to regional countries by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, and said the visits were in line with the Islamic Republic’s approach to its neighbors in the Persian Gulf region as well as Iraq, which is “a main ally”.

“As Iran is cooperating with neighboring and regional countries in all areas, it maintains its firm support for regional allies,” he noted.

The Iranian official also pointed to the recent conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and six world powers, saying that at a time when some regional and trans-regional countries had resorted to the use of force, the nuclear deal proved that diplomatic talks can be effective in the international arena.

Last week, Zarif travelled to Iraq on the final leg of his tour of regional countries that had taken him earlier to Kuwait and Qatar.

His trip came after Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, US, Britain, France, and Germany) finalized the text of a lasting agreement on Tehran's nuclear energy program in Vienna, Austria, on July 14. Later, the 15-member United Nations Security Council unanimously passed a resolution endorsing the text of the deal.
