Iran Loses to Italy at FIVB Men’s U-23 World Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran was defeated against Italy 3-1 (25-23, 15-25, 25-17, 26-24) in the FIVB Men’s U-23 World Championship at Al Nasr Hall in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates on Friday.

With the victory World Junior No 3 Italy confirmed a semifinals ticket, one day before the end of the preliminary round, while No 5 Iran dropped to 2-2 in the tough Pool A competition.

Gabriele Nelli led the Italian scorers with impressive 17 points followed by Tiziano Mazzone 12. Iran's scorer and match scorer was Javad Hosseinabadi with 18 points followed by captain Purya Fayazi 10.

Iran will play Egypt on Saturday.

The top two teams in both pools will progress to the semifinals and finals. The third and fourth placed teams from the pool stage will enter a similar playoff format playing for classification from fifth to eighth.
