GOP Representative: Iran Deal Deeply Flawed

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – The Republican chairman of the US House Foreign Affairs Committee said that Iran nuclear agreement is “deeply flawed” as it “gives Iran to much too fast”, media reports said.

“If this agreement goes through, Iran gets a cash bonanza, it gets a boost to its international standing, and a path toward nuclear weapons,” Representative Ed Royce of California made the remarks in the GOP’s weekly address, The Hill reported on Saturday.

“I have come to my conclusions. This deal is deeply flawed. It makes the world less safe and it gives Iran too much, too fast.”

Royce further added that the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) does not serve US interests.

He also claimed that after the expiration of the agreement in 10 to 15 years, Iran could resume its nuclear program and move towards “nuclear weapon.”

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany- also known as P5+1 or E3+3) finalized the text of lasting deal on Tehran’s nuclear program on July 14.

When Congress returns to Capitol Hill from its August recess after Labor Day, both the House and Senate are expected to vote on resolutions disapproving the July 14 accord.

While it is expected Congress will vote to disapprove the agreement, President Obama can veto their disapproval, and Republicans are unlikely to have the votes to override that veto as 31 US Democratic Senators have so far come in favor of the deal.
