TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is visiting Tunisia, described the North African country as a good example of Muslims’ social and political participation.

“Tunisia is a successful example of people’s presence in the (political scene of) Muslim world,” Zarif said upon his arrival in the African country on Monday.

Zarif left Tehran for Tunisia this morning as the starting point of a new round of his international tours after the recent conclusion of nuclear talks with world powers.

Regarding the purpose of his visit, Zarif said he will hold talks with high-ranking Tunisian officials on the expansion of political, economic, and cultural cooperation between Tehran and Tunis.

“I hope we will have constructive and good talks (with Tunisian authorities) given the common stances held by the two countries,” the Iranian foreign minister said, underscoring the necessity for talks between Muslim states given the instabilities and extremism gripping the region.

Zarif is also planned to visit Algeria in his tour of North African nations.

Bilateral ties and regional and international developments will be high on the agenda during his visit to the two African states.

In his previous international tours after the Vienna nuclear talks, Zarif had visited several countries including Kuwait, Qatar, Iraq, Lebanon, and Syria in the Middle East as well as India, Pakistan, and Russia.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has repeatedly emphasized that his government’s approach in foreign policy is to have more constructive interaction with the entire world, particularly in the wake of the conclusion of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between Iran and six world powers on July 14.
