TEHRAN (Tasnim) - United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in a meeting with Iran's parliament speaker, hailed the conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and six world powers, and announced that he has plans to visit Tehran in the near future.

At the meeting with Ali Larijani in New York on Monday, the UN chief described finalization of the text of a lasting nuclear accord between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) as a big achievement for both Iran and the UN.

They met on the sidelines of the Fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament at the United Nations headquarters.

Ban further called for Iran’s more active role in the settlement of the regional and international conflicts.

Iran and the United Nations can promote cooperation in the fight against terrorism and extremism, he said.

Calling for Iran’s role in resolving the crisis in Yemen, the UN secretary-general said 80 percent of Yemen’s population, some 21 million people, are in need of urgent help.

For his part, Larijani highlighted the UN’s role in settling the crisis in Yemen, describing a ceasefire in the Arab country and dialogue for the formation of a national unity government as the only practical options.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran is prepared to help in materializing the key goal (formation of national unity government)," he

He also warned that continuation of war in Yemen "could inflict a lot of problems on the region."

Yemen has been under airstrikes by a Saudi-led coalition for more than five months.

On March 26, Riyadh and some of its Arab allies launched a military campaign against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Saudis.

More than 4000 people, many of them children and women, have been killed in the Saudi-led aggression against the Arab country so far.
