Iran’s Larijani Raps Certain Regional States’ Support for Terrorism

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of Iran’s Parliament Ali Larijani warned against the spread of terrorism in region, and strongly criticized certain countries in the Middle East for supporting terrorist groups.

“Unfortunately, some regional countries are contributing to the expansion and spread of terrorism in the region by supporting terrorist groups,” Larijani said.

He made the remarks in a Wednesday meeting with the head of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies Laura Boldrini held on the sidelines the fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in New York.

Larijani further underlined that Islamic Republic of Iran deems it necessary to fight against terrorism.

Boldrini, for her part, condemned the ongoing acts of terrorism in the region, saying that a global resolve is needed to counter the phenomenon.

Speakers of Parliament from around the world seized a unique opportunity to launch a new era of political leadership with the potential to transform the world when they meet for a conference at UN Headquarters in New York, started on August 31 and ended on September 2.

About 180 parliamentary leaders, including more than 35 Deputy Speakers, from nearly 140 countries taking part in the Fourth edition of the conference examines ways to effectively tackle global challenges to peace and democracy.

World Conference of Speakers of Parliament is part of the series of high-level meetings leading up to the UN Summit in late September 2015, at which the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was launched.
