Iranian Army to Hold 2 Drills in Fall: Commander

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of the Iranian Army Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan announced on Saturday that the Force will stage two separate war games in the western and eastern parts of the country in the coming months.

The Army Ground Force will hold a drill in the country's west in the Iranian month of Mehr (September 23 to October 22) and one in the eastern part in Aban (October 23 to November 21), General Pourdastan declared.

The Iranian commander made the remarks in a ceremony in the northeastern holy city of Mashhad.

The drills will be held as “the first reaction by the Army Ground Force” to the activities of the ISIL terrorist group in the country’s eastern neighbors, General Pourdastan added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, he highlighted the danger of the ongoing regional proxy wars, whose “main players are Takfiri (extremist) groups and Daesh (Arabic acronym for ISIL).”

The preparedness of the Armed Forces results in a sense of security for people and also acts as a deterrent against the enemy, he added.

Over the past few years, Iran’s Armed Forces have held several military drills.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly assured other nations, especially its neighbors, that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
