Iran Basketball Team Wins William Jones Cup
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran basketball team defeated Russian Spartak Primorye 78-54 to win the 37th William Jones Cup on Saturday.
Mehdi Kamrani led the Iranian basketball team with 20 points and Uzinskii scored 23 points for Spartak.
Iran had already won the William Jones Cup four times in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013.
Iran defeated South Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei A and B, New Zealand’s Wellington Saints, the Philippines and Russian Spartak and lost to USA Overtake-Select in the competition.
It’s a good test for Dirk Bauermann’s team, who is preparing for the 2015 FIBA Asian Cup.
The competition will be held in Changsha, Hunan in China from September 23 to October 3.
