Iranian Officials to Attend Ceremony Marking Moscow City Day

MOSCOW (Tasnim) – A number of Iranian officials have been invited to take part in a Saturday night state ceremony in Moscow to mark the 868th anniversary of the Russian capital.

As the city of Moscow is celebrating its 868th anniversary on Saturday, Kremlin will hold a ceremony to be attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Iranian officials including Deputy Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Seyed Abbas Salehi and Iranian Ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanaei have been officially invited to participate in the function.

According to Tasnim dispatches, the Iranian Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance Ali Jannati had also been invited to the event, but he has just returned to Iran after visiting the Moscow International Book Fair.

Meetings are also scheduled to be held between Iranian and Russian officials on the sidelines of the ceremony.

The Moscow City Day is celebrated annually on the first Saturday of September but holiday events start earlier and continue till the end of the month.

For the first time the Moscow Day was celebrated in the middle of the 19th century to mark the establishment day of the city.
