Iraqi Parliament Speaker Due in Iran Friday

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Speaker of Iraq’s Parliament Salim al-Jabouri will travel to Iran on Friday night at the head of a parliamentary delegation, an Iranian adviser announced.

Hossein Sheikholeslam, an international adviser to Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani, told the Tasnim News Agency that the Iraqi speaker will arrive in Tehran tomorrow night.

He is scheduled to hold a meeting with his Iranian counterpart on Saturday and the two sides will hold a joint press conference after their meeting.

“Salim al-Jabouri will also meet Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif during his stay,” Sheikholeslam said.

Earlier, Iraqi sources said Jabouri will discuss supporting the national reconciliation plan in Iraq and fighting the Takfiri terrorists in the Arab country.

Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.
