Most Regional Problems Imposed by Outsiders: Iran’s President

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said most of problems in the Middle East region have been created by outsiders and that settling them requires collective cooperation.

“Today, the Middle East is facing numerous problems most of which have been imposed on the region from outside,” Rouhani said Sunday in a meeting in Tehran with Dutch Minister for Foreign Affairs Albert Koenders.

The Iranian chief executive underlined the need for multilateral cooperation for the resolution of regional issues, saying that Iran and the Netherlands can have consultations and close cooperation in this regard.

He further referred to bilateral ties and said Tehran and Amsterdam have good potentials for development of relations in economic, cultural and political fields.

The Netherlands, which will assume the European Union’s rotating presidency next year, can also play a major role in Iran-EU ties in the post-sanctions era, President Rouhani went on to say, in reference to the recent nuclear deal reached between Iran and world powers which will result in the termination of anti-Iran sanctions when it comes into force.

Tehran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) finalized the text of the nuclear agreement known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in Vienna, Austria, on July 14.

The Dutch Minister for Foreign Affairs, for his part, conveyed the warm greetings of his country’s prime minister to the Iranian president and highlighted Amsterdam's keenness to enhance ties with Iran in areas like energy.

He said Tehran and Amsterdam can uplift the level of interactions and cooperation in different fields with the “victory of Iranian multilateral diplomacy” which led to the nuclear agreement.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Koenders underlined the necessity for combating terrorism with a serious resolve.
