Iran Held by Saudi Arabia at WAFF U-23 Championship

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iran drew 2-2 with Saudi Arabia in Group B of the West Asian U-23 Football Federation (WAFF) Championship on Sunday.

Iran striker Arsalan Motahhari was on target twice in the 9th and 15th minutes.

Abdullah Muhammad pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 17th minute.

In the 82nd minute, the Iranian defender scored an own goal to draw the match 2-2.

“We should have scored more than five goals. Our strikers squandered their chances in this match,” Iran coach Mohammad Khakpour said in the post-match news conference.

WAFF is being held in Doha, Qatar from September 30 to October 14.

The competition will be used as a warm up for the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship which is also held in Qatar.
