Official Warns of New Threats after JCPOA

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of Iran’s Civil Defense Organization Brigadier General Gholam Reza Jalali raised the alarm about a shift in the nature of threats following the implementation of a final nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.

“The image of threats will change after the JCPOA (implementation),” the official said Tuesday at a press conference in Tehran, referring to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, a lasting agreement between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) over Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

Calling for plans to study the new threats in the post-JCPOA era, General Jalali referred to industrial espionage and foreign access to data on the country’s infrastructures as some of these threats.

He also stressed the need for the formation of a body to specifically monitor the US moves as well as American officials’ words and deeds after the JAPOA.

Earlier in August, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underscored that Iran will foil any US attempt to infiltrate the Islamic Republic via the nuclear deal whose future is still uncertain.

“Americans seek to make an excuse to infiltrate Iran through a (nuclear) deal whose fate and whether it will be rejected or approved is not yet certain either in Iran or the US,” the Leader said on Monday, in a meeting with the participants of two international gatherings in Tehran.

Ayatollah Khamenei underlined that Iran acts “decisively” to block Washington’s abuse of the outcomes of the nuclear talks, noting, “With all our strong capabilities, we will not allow Americans’ economic, political or cultural infiltration or political presence in Iran.”

While many consider the JCPOA a major breakthrough in the improvement of ties between Iran and the West, the Leader has already made it clear that Tehran’s policy toward the US will remain unchanged regardless of the ultimate fate of the accord.
