Iran Ready for Talks with EU on Counter-Terrorism: President Rouhani

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani underlined that the Islamic Republic is prepared to hold talks with the member states of the European Union, including Poland, to help resolve regional problems such as terrorism.

Speaking in a Saturday meeting with Chairman of Poland’s Senate Bogdan Borusewicz in Tehran, President Rouhani said the Middle East is struggling with the threat posed by terrorist groups.

He added that if an urgent action is not taken to counter the threat, it can cause serious problems for all countries in the region and elsewhere.

“All should stand up against this global problem and try to find solutions to it,” Rouhani noted.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to hold talks with the EU and its member states, including Poland, to resolve regional problems,” he stressed.

The polish politician, for his part, hailed Iran as a significant country and a factor of regional stability and called for promotion of bilateral relations between the two countries in all political and economic spheres.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani in Tehran earlier on Saturday, Borusewicz had said Poland is keen to strengthen economic ties with Iran.

He said the plans for closer trade ties between Tehran and Warsaw are set against a backdrop of ample opportunities for economic partnership.
