Iran’s Larijani Censures Western Powers’ Intervention in Region

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani underlined that security in the Middle East should be ensured by the regional countries and without any intervention by Western powers.

“Regional security should be provided only through cooperation and friendship among regional countries and without the interference of Western powers,” Larijani said, addressing a gathering of Arab media officials on Monday.

He further emphasized that the powers are seeking their own interests in the region.

Larijani described regional and international equations as “changing” and said, “In times of crisis, it is important that we have good understanding of the current situation and be able to side with and help each other in the jelly situation of the region.”

The parliament speaker also said Iran’s support for the peoples of Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan and other countries is in line with efforts to fight terrorism, create sustainable peace and security in the region, and preserve the territorial integrity of the regional nations.

Iraq has been facing the growing threat of terrorism, mainly posed by the ISIL terrorist group.

Syria has been also gripped by civil war since March 2011 with Takfiri terrorists from various groups, including the ISIL, currently controlling parts of it.

In the meantime, Iran has remained a close ally of the two Arab countries and supports their legitimate governments in the face of foreign-backed militancy.
