UN, Int’l Bodies Cooperating with Iran over AIDS Plan

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – An Iranian UN health official said that Iran’s 4th National AIDS plan is being implemented in cooperation with the UN and several international organizations.

More than 16 international organizations and bodies are contributing to the implementation of Iran’s 4th National AIDS plan, Fardad Doroudi, Iran’s director at the United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) said in an interview with Azerbaijan's Azer News on Tuesday.

He added that the plan entails 10 strategic goals, adding that the UN is helping with its implementation as well.

Medicine, diagnostic and laboratorial substances, as well as some equipment have been imported to the country by the UNAIDS, Doroudi said, adding there are a wide range of educational programs and projects, which are being implemented within the framework of the plan.

UNAIDS is an innovative joint venture of the United Nations family, bringing together the efforts and resources of ten UN system organizations in the AIDS response to help the world prevent new HIV infections, care for people living with HIV, and mitigate the impact of the epidemic.

With its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, the UNAIDS Secretariat works on the ground in more than 80 countries worldwide. Coherent action on AIDS by the UN system is coordinated in countries through the UN theme groups, and the joint programs on AIDS.
