Iran's VP Calls on Palestinians to Continue Resistance to Restore Rights

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran’s newly-appointed first vice-president said the Palestinian nation’s anti-Israel resistance is the path to restore the nation's rights.

”Iran supports understanding among Palestinian groups and wants this understanding to lead to the settlement of the Palestinian people’s issues,” Eshaq Jahangiri said during a meeting with Palestinian Authority (PA) Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki here in Tehran on Monday.

Jahangiri, who is appointed by Iran’s new President Hassan Rouhani as the country’s first vice-president, also emphasized the importance of Palestine for Iran over the past 34 years.

The Iranian official further noted that the Palestinian nation’s resistance against the Zionist regime of Israel would be the way to restore the rights of Palestinians.

Riyad al-Maliki, for his part, expressed the hope that enhanced cooperation between Iran and Palestine during President Rouhani’s term would serve the interests of the two Muslim nations.

Al-Maliki’s visit to Tehran was aimed at conveying the message of Acting PA Chief Mahmoud Abbas to Iran’s new President.

On Sunday, Rouhani took the oath of presidential office in a ceremony held in Iran’s Parliament with the presence of high-ranking delegations from more than 50 countries.

He emerged victorious in the presidential election on June 14, which was marked by a high voter turnout.
