Cleric: Any US Aggression against Iran Results in Destruction of Tel Aviv, Haifa
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian cleric said Iran would respond to any US military aggression against the country by destroying Tel Aviv and Haifa.
“The nation of the Islamic Iran is ready, and in case there was the slightest aggression against the country, Tel Aviv and Haifa would be razed to the ground,” Ayatollah Ahmad Khatami said, addressing a ceremony in Iran's western city of Nahavand on Sunday.
He added that the whole world has seen Iran’s 1,500- km- range missiles and attacking Iran could put US interests around the globe in danger.
On the possibility of a US strike against Syria, Ayatollah Khatami said, "The main objective behind these pretexts is to impose pressure on Iran... which has so far resisted against the big powers."
The US and its allies are considering military action against Syria, but on Saturday US President Barack Obama delayed an imminent military strike against Syria to seek approval from the Congress.
The remarks by Ayatollah Khatami came a few months after Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said that Iran will raze Tel Aviv to the ground if Israel launches a military strike against the Islamic Republic.
“Israel’s leaders sometimes threaten Iran, but they know that if they do a damn thing, the Islamic Republic will raze Tel Aviv and (the occupied city of) Haifa to the ground,” Ayatollah Khamenei said in an address to large crowds of people in the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad on the occasion of the Iranian new year on March 21.
