Envoy: Northern Iranian Ports' Capacity Good for Economic Exchange

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Northern Iranian ports have a good potential for broadening economic interactions with South Africa, that country’s ambassador to Iran said on Tuesday during a visit to Iran’s northern Mazandaran province.

William Max Whitehead said on the sidelines of his visit to Amir Abad Port Special Economic Zone that Iran and South Africa can use the northern Iranian ports to further their economic transactions.

The South African ambassador stated that the South African private sector can establish good ties with the Iranian side, and added that his country has a number of strategic ports that can facilitate trade ties with Iran.

The South African delegation, led by that country’s ambassador to Iran, arrived in Iran’ northern Mazandaran province on Tuesday morning.

The South African Ambassador arrived in the provincial capital city of Sari along with a delegation comprised of a number of his colleagues at the embassy.

Several South African companies are involved in major projects in Iran. MTN Group has a 49-percent stake in the Irancell consortium which was awarded the second mobile telecommunications license in Iran. It started operations in October 2006.
