Rouhani Lauds IRGC’s Role in Defending Nation

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani praised the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) for its prominent role in countering plots against the country, and called on it to help ease the burden on his administration by carrying out big national projects.

Speaking in a gathering of the IRGC commanders and officials here in Tehran this morning, Rouhani described the current conditions in the region and Iran as “sensitive,” and said, “Today, the force that has stood and should stand in the front line against the plots is the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.”

The main reason the enemies of Iran are afraid of the IRGC is not its military might alone, but its high morale, spirituality and religious values, President Rouhani said.

He further called on the IRGC to assume responsibility for carrying out some major national projects, so that it can ease the burden on the government, particularly in economic fields.

“I ask the IRGC to assist the administration in countering sanctions and tackling commodity smuggling,” the Iranian President pointed out.

In late August, IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari had stated that his forces are fully ready at all times to safeguard the Islamic establishment and defend the nation.

“Given the unique geopolitical and strategic situation of Iran, and its capacity to influence the freedom-loving nations of the world as well as the potential of its becoming a role model... the world powers have devised scenarios to confront with the Islamic Republic," he said on August 28.

The Iranian commander went on to say that development of indigenous military equipment and defensive systems have enabled the IRGC forces to boost their deterrent power and guarantee the country’s territorial integrity in the face of any foreign threats.
