Mubarak Praises Sisi in Leaked Recordings

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak said the next president should be of a military background and praises Defense Minister al-Sisi as "shrewd," in leaked recordings.

Egypt’s Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into complaints against the doctor of toppled president Hosni Mubarak on suspicions that he leaked voice recordings of their conversations during Mubarak’s stay at Cairo’s Tora Prison Hospital, a judicial source said.

According to the source, the doctor is expected to be summoned in the coming days for an investigation, World Bulletin reported.

On Sunday, private daily Al-Youm al-Sabea published excerpts of the recordings and later released a tape of Mubarak's discussions with the doctor, during which the ousted president commented on Egypt's political situation and expressed his views about several public figures.

In the recordings, Mubarak said the country's next president should be of a military background. He also praised Egyptian Defense Minister Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi as "shrewd."

In the taped conversations, Mubarak – who ruled Egypt with an iron fist for 30 years before being toppled by popular uprising in early 2011 – insisted that the revolution that forced him from power had "began at the instigation of the United States in 2005."

Mubarak – along with his two sons, former interior minister Habib al-Adly and six security chiefs – continues to face charges of complicity in the killing of unarmed anti-regime protesters during 2011's 18-day uprising.
