Senior MP Hails Rouhani’s UN Speech

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A senior Iranian lawmaker Wednesday praised President Hassan Rouhani’s UN General Assembly address as “logical”, and said the Iranian president and his US counterpart both adopted a positive and constructive tone in their addresses.

Rouhani’s address contained elements of might and belief and was logical at the same time, said Gholam Ali Haddad Adel, and added the points Rouhani mentioned in his UN address were the Iranian nation’s often-stated stances.

He then touched on a change in the tone of presidents of both Iran and the US, saying the change in tone was positive and "we should do our best -- through the heroic flexibility approach suggested by the Leader -- to express our ideas, as we stick to our principles, and to solve the problems."

President Rouhani called on all countries, international organizations, and civil bodies to organize new efforts aimed at leading the world towards peace and security.

The Iranian president underlined that instead of the incompetent coalition for war in different parts of the world we need to concentrate on coalition for sustainable peace, throughout the world.

Haddad Adel, who is the head of the parliament’s Principlists’ fraction told ICANA, Iran's parliament news agency, that "words needed to be matched by real action", which is easing and removal of the sanctions imposed on the country by western countries.

US President Barack Obama said in his UN address that despite many "roadblocks," he believed the diplomatic path must be tested on Iran and said he had urged Secretary of State John Kerry to pursue a deal.

"We are not seeking regime change, and we respect the right of the Iranian people to access peaceful nuclear energy," he insisted - an acknowledgment of the assertion frequently made by the Iranian authorities.

"Instead, we insist that the Iranian government meet its responsibilities under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and UN Security Council resolutions."
