Iran Bids for Hosting Finals of FIVB 2014 World League
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Head of Iran's Volleyball Federation who is in Lausanne, Switzerland, to participate at an FIVB (International Volleyball Federation) conference, in a meeting with FIVB president proposed Tehran’s bid for hosting the 2014 World League.
Head of the Iranian Volleyball Federation Mohammad Reza Davarzani who was in the Swiss city to attend the one-day FIVB gathering on Sunday, met with President of the International Volleyball Federation Ary S. Graça on Saturday and put forth Iran’s proposal for hosting the final round of the volleyball world league.
Different FIVB officials who were present in the meeting congratulated Iran for its rapid growth in volleyball and for having become a world class competitor for big teams.
Dr. Graça also said that decision on Iran’s hosting of the international volleyball event depended on collective decision to be made at a special FIVB council.
The latest FIVB ranking indicate that Iran ranks 12th in the world following its eye-catching victories in recent years at international volleyball arenas.
On November 24 Iranian national volleyball team beat the host team, Japan, on the last day of 2013 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Grand Champions Cup to rank 4th top team in the games.
