Iran to Host ICAO Regional Meeting


TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iran is set to host a regional meeting of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), due to be held among member states of its Middle East regional office in September 2014, an official with Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization said.

According to Mohammad Khodakarami, deputy head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization, the Iranian capital of Tehran is scheduled to host the sixth meeting of ICAO’s Middle East (MID) Regional Office Communication, Navigation and Surveillance Sub-Group (CNS SG), in September 2014.

The three-day meeting, Khodakarami said, will be attended by members of ICAO MID Regional Office, including Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Syria, Iraq, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, Oman, Sudan and Libya, as well as a number of international organizations such as the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO).

ICAO MID Regional Office is one of seven regional offices (wings) of ICAO and is located in Cairo, Egypt. It is accredited to 15 member states and provides them with all possible guidance and assistance in order to meet the needs of the region for safe, regular, efficient and economical air transport, according to ICAO official website.

ICAO is a specialized agency of the United Nations that was created in 1944 to promote the safe and orderly development of international civil aviation throughout the world. It sets standards and regulations necessary for aviation safety, security, efficiency and regularity, as well as for aviation environmental protection. The Organization serves as the forum for cooperation in all fields of civil aviation among its 191 Member States.
