President Rouhani Congratulates Cuba on National Day

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a message to his Cuban counterpart congratulated the Cuban National Day, expressing the hope that the bilateral relations between Tehran and Havana would further deepen in future.

President Rouhani on Wednesday sent a  message to President of the Council of State of Cuba Raul Castro, and felicitated the Cuban government and nation on the occasion of the Liberation Day in the Latin American country, which falls on January 1.

The Iranian president also expressed the hope that amicable relation between Iran and Cuba would further strengthen thanks to the joint efforts by the two countries’ officials.

Every year on January 1, Cuba celebrates its Liberation Day, or Triumph of the Revolution, which marks the victory of the revolution led by Fidel Castro in 1959.

The promotion of all-out cooperation with Latin American countries has been among the top priorities of the Islamic Republic's foreign policy over the past few years. Tehran has close political, military and trade relations with Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador and Bolivia.

In a meeting with Cuba’s Vice-President of Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz here in Tehran in August, Rouhani said Iran enjoys “pioneering” relations with Cuba.

Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz was among dozens of other foreign dignitaries who had traveled to Iran in order to attend Rouhani’s swearing-in ceremony.

“Fortunately, the two countries’ had an active relations in the international circles, including the United Nations and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),” Rouhani pointed out at the time.

The Cuban official, for his part, regarded the relations between Iran and Cuba as “very deep and amicable”, and expressed hope for expansion of ties with Iran’s new administration.
