South Korean Diplomat Freed in Libya
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – A South Korean diplomat was freed in the Libyan capital Tripoli days after he had been abducted, Libya's official news agency LANA reported Thursday, citing a Libyan official.
"The commercial attaché at the South Korean embassy has been freed and handed over to the embassy in Tripoli," Libya's Deputy Foreign Minister Abdel-Razeq al-Qeridi told LANA.
Al-Qeridi did not identify the abductors or say how the diplomat had been freed, dpa reported.
However, the agency said security authorities arrested four suspects believed to be linked to an armed militia group over the incident.
The diplomat had been kidnapped in Tripoli on Sunday.
Libya's post-revolution rulers have been struggling to assert their authority amid a proliferation of weapons and militias since the ouster and killing of dictator Muammer Gaddafi in October 2011.
Former rebels, who took part in the revolt against Gaddafi, have resisted the government's efforts to disarm them.
