DM Terms US Warmongering Rhetoric against Iran as "Medieval"
TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan on Wednesday criticized the recent statements made by the US officials about the so-called 'military option' against Iran, adding that Americans are well aware of Iran's defensive power.
General Dehqan expressed surprise at how the so-called advocates of human rights, democracy and diplomacy are still talking about employment of “medieval methods” that are no longer relevant.
His remarks came in reaction to US Secretary of State John Kerry’s insistence that the military option against Iran is still on the table.
Last week, Kerry said in an interview with Al-Arabia network that if Iran resumes uranium enrichment beyond the five-percent level, “then the military option that is available to the United States is ready and prepared to do what it would have to do.”
The defense minister further said US officials’ insistence on making such imprudent statements would only "fuel the Iranian nation and other nations’ hatred towards the US" and hinder the path of dialogue and diplomacy.
Dehqan, however, stressed that the US threats seem to be nothing more than a “political bluff”, adding that the Americans are well aware of the defensive power of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
"Americans know well that they will not dare to make any impudent move against the Iranian nation as they know the Islamic Republic of Iran's defensive power."
A number of other senior Iranian officials have also slammed Kerry’s belligerent words in recent days.
On Tuesday, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi described threats against the Iranian nation as a grave mistake, adding that the US is unable to take action against the country.
Firouzabadi also said that the Americans had better pursue diplomacy within the framework of the Geneva agreement and avoid hampering the negotiations by making absurd and hollow statements.
Earlier, Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) underlined that the United States will be stunned by the offensive power of the Islamic Republic if it resorts to military action against Iran.
“The US will never understand the Islamic Republic of Iran’s offensive scope,” Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari said.
Jafari noted that political experts and security observers in the US consider the military option against Iran to be good "only on the table" but believe that using the option "would not be in the interest of the US national security."
