President Urges Iran-Oman Joint Efforts to Improve Regional Security

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday underlined the significant role of Iran and Oman in ensuring security in the sensitive region.

"Iran and Oman are situated in a sensitive and strategic region and they have successfully worked together to improve security in the region," President Rouhani said in a meeting with the new Omani Ambassador to Tehran Saud bin Ahmad al-Barwani.

He added that under the current conditions on the international scene, the two countries can expand their comprehensive relations, particularly in economic field.

“Unfortunately, some of the regional countries are moving towards total destruction due to their harsh disputes and clashes, and countries such as Iran and Oman that enjoy stability and security should expand the security and stability throughout the region."

The new ambassador of Oman, who submitted his credentials to Rouhani, expressed the hope the two countries’ economic relations would match the excellent level of their political ties.

“Iran is not only a good neighbor of Oman, but also our country’s brother, and the two countries’ age-old relations bears witness to this claim,” he said.

That is while on January 29 Iranian foreign minister and new Omani ambassador to Tehran underlined the necessity for the further expansion of bilateral relations between the two countries and their closer cooperation in the regional and international fields.

During the meeting Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif praised Oman for its "constructive role" in settling regional and international issues, and called for the comprehensive development of the bilateral relations between Tehran and Muscat.

“The country and the high-ranking officials of Oman, particularly Sultan Qaboos and Foreign Minister Youssef bin Alawi have played outstanding roles in contribution to resolving the regional and international conflicts and we value that precious role,” Zarif stated.

The Iranian foreign minister further said that Sultan Qaboos’s August visit to Iran - as the first head of state after President Hassan Rouhani took office - and the mutual respect between the two countries’ senior officials indicate the firm determination of both sides to promote bilateral ties.
