IRGC to Stage Planned Wargames on Schedule: Official

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Head of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps public relations department said the IRGC has held all the military exercises it had set out to stage during the current Iranian year (started on 21 March 2013), adding that the other planned drills will also be staged on schedule.

“The IRGC’s wargames have been held during 1392 (2013-14) within the framework of the annual plans and based on a definite timetable, in two forms of expert (exercises) and joint drills with the other forces,” General Ramezan Sharif said on Thursday.

Moreover, Sharif added, the IRGC will stage the other planned wargames until year-end as scheduled.

General Sharif made it clear that the annual plans for military exercises are meant to keep and upgrade the forces’ defensive preparedness.

He also explained that the decision to publicize a number of the wargmaes is made by the special authorities who would take the country’s defensive policies into account.

According to Sharif, only a limited number of the IRGC’s annual exercise are announced publicly, which mostly include those wargames carried out jointly by the IRGC Ground Force, Navy, Aerospace Force, as well as Basij (volunteer) forces.

In November 2013, the IRGC staged military drills in Iran’s central province of Markazi, with a local brigade participating in the drills.
